01.06 - Children's Day & Rusalian Week πΏ
June begins with International Children's Day, one of the most widely celebrated family occasions in Bulgaria, but it also marks the start of Rusalian Week in folk tradition. According to belief, the Rusalii were wandering healer groups who traveled for seven days, using ritual practices to treat illnesses that traditional communities often grouped under the broad term of "madness."
15.06 (28 June in the old calendar) - Vidovden βοΈ
Observed mainly in Serbia and northwestern Bulgaria, Vidovden is connected to Vida, the sister of the weather saints German and Elisey, who was believed to have the power to calm destructive hailstorms. The saying "Vidovden will come" comes from this tradition, carrying the idea that sooner or later everyone must face the consequences of their actions.
24.06 - Enyovden (Midsummer's Day) πΌ
One of Bulgaria's most important folk holidays - Enyovden - is associated with herbs, healing, and the peak of nature's power. Tradition holds that plants gathered before sunrise on this day gain special medicinal qualities, while wreaths woven from flowers and herbs are used in rituals for health and protection.
